Syrtaki Restaurant

Original Greek cuisine in Kos is simple and hearty, with lots of home-grown garden vegetables or when it comes to fish, the fresh
„catch of the day“. Even today, lots of unique vegetarian dishes can be found on the menu.

Syrtaki specialties include fresh fish, delivered every morning by local fishermen as well as other traditional dishes of the island.

Most meat dishes are made of pork, but at Syrtaki we also serve beef, steak & lamb. Stifado, for instance, a goulash with onions and a unique tomato-cinnamon sauce, is highly recommended. The complete dinner starts off with a selection of Mezedes, tasty small appetizers, which make you want more: Tzatziki, & a variety of Saganaki.

You should try our Specials like the Country Style Lamb, the Braised Lamb Shank, the stuffed Bifteki with feta cheese. You can enjoy the typical Greek homemade Gyros in a plate or in a pita.

Nobody is left behind, in case you are Vegetarian or Vegan we have you covered, most of our starters & Salads are Vegan, try some of our tradition specialties such as Stuffed Vegetables with rice and spices, the oven baked Vegetables & Kritharaki noodle-rice. If you’re a sweet tooth, you should try our homemade Baklava, a creation made with honey, nuts and puff pastry, or ask for the daily baked deserts.

Our Kitchen Chef, Johanna, is a passionate cook and responsible for the physical well-being in the Syrtaki restaurant. Sie will spoil you with her traditional homemade Bread.

We always care for the well-being of our guests and would love to host you in person.
We look forward to seeing you.

The island of Kos and our village of Kefalos

Kos is an island of majestic beauty located in the center of the Aegean Sea. Our island is northwest of Rhodes, southeast of the mainland, and is the third largest island in the Dedocanese (“Dodecanese” from Greek “twelve islands”) after Rhodes and Karpathos.

As well as natural beauty and stunning golden sandy beaches, Kos boasts monumentally remnants of its glorious past, from ancient times to the present day. Kos is basically a long, narrow island and measures 290.27 square kilometers. The coastline stretches up to 112 km. Kos is a Greek province that also includes the smaller islands of Nissyros, Giali, Pergoussa, Kandeliousa, Pahia and Strogili.

The islanders live from fishing, animal husbandry and agriculture, but the main industry is now tourism. Kefalos is 40km southwest of Kos town, a small beautiful village built on a hill on the west side of the island. In ancient times it was the first capital of the island, today the village has about 2500 inhabitants. The houses are built so close together that the narrow streets are one of the island’s architectural features.

The traditional house is one of the most interesting buildings; it is a folk museum with a presentation of agricultural life in the village from the past. You will also see the traditional windmills and the old townscape (just off the main village) is based on old ruins of the castle. Kamari, 1km east of Kefalos has a marina where many yachts and small boats moor in summer. Kamari dates back to the 5th century and there are still many well-preserved pieces of mosaic decoration and remains of the sculptural decoration of the churches.

A little further and very close to the coast you will find the small island of Kastri with the small church of Agios Nicolaos, the protector of seafaring. 3km south at Palatia Square you can see the ruins of the ancient capital of the island of Astipalea, the ruins of a temple of Dimitra, the goddess of agriculture (5th century BC), a temple of Asklipios, a Doric temple and a theater of the Hellenic time. On the rise you will also visit Panagia Palatiani Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Excellent views of Kefalos and the sea are offered.

Just another 7km from Kefalos is the Holy Monastery of Agios Ioannis (St John) with the main feature of the perennial plane tree almost entirely covering the small church and even reaching the bell tower. 5km north of Kefalos there is a small bay of Limnionas, with a small port; a haven for small fishing and tourist boats in case of rough seas.

There is good food in the local tarvernas and be sure to try the local sweets made with the local honey. Kefalos also has a varied nightlife with many bars and nightclubs. In Kefalos there is a police station and basic medical care. Kefalos is ~16km from the airport and can be easily reached by car, public bus or scooter.

As the island of Kos and especially Kefalos has so much to offer, it will be an unforgettable holiday for everyone.
